One Spring day these two country guys were sitting in rocking chairs, rocking away, chewing the fat on one of their front porches. Nearby was a scruffy, ol’ hound dog sitting on the porch next to his owner scratching at fleas. Every once in a while the hound dog would stop scratching and let out with a mournful howl, keep it up for a minute, and then stop and go back to scratching.
Finally, the visitor couldn’t stand it anymore and asked his friend, “How come your dog’s a howling and moaning so much?”
The dog’s owner replied, “Because he’s sittin’ on a nail.” Read the rest of this entry

I was wanting to practice a new string of Natural Selling dialogue questions this last week and decided a good place to do so would be one of the many coffee shops we have here in Vancouver.
So with my cup of tea and chocolate cake I found a place on a stool that faced outward to the street to watch the people passing buy (intended pun!). I also made sure there was an empty stool on each side of me!
Then… in the words of Franz Kafka, that famous Austrian/Czech philosopher and poet… I became “quiet, still and solitary”… and waited for the world to “roll in ecstasy” at my feet… while enjoying the chocolate cake of course!
Kafka was right when he continued with the words… “It has no choice. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked”, because sure enough, two minutes later a lady turned up.
“Is this seat taken?” she asked Read the rest of this entry

Wisecracking old lady embarrasses me at the
workshop, but makes a great point.
I'm doing my best. I think the training workshop is
going well, but there is one big problem.
In the front row sits a very, very old man and his
wife. The old man is sleeping. But it gets worse . . .
he's SNORING - really loud.
I try to be diplomatic, so I ask his wife:
"Your husband is snoring and disturbing the
rest of the group. Would you mind waking him
up?"
She replied:
"YOU wake him up. YOU put him to sleep!"
Ouch. She was right.

What makes you attractive?
* Would you want a motivated or an unmotivated sponsor?
* Would you want a positive or a negative sponsor?
* Would you join a sponsor who made negative comments about others?
* Would you join a sponsor who complained about the company?
* Would you join a sponsor who tried to convince you that every company in our industry is bad except one?
* Would you join a sponsor who talked badly about people?
It’s easy to see why some sponsors do well and why some struggle. Read the rest of this entry

Have you ever called a lead to find that from the moment they picked up the phone they sounded as though they were non business like, perhaps not too motivated or didn’t appear to be committed to doing much?
Did you then decide that they really weren’t worth spending any more time with and rapidly wound down the conversation?
If you have – Beware! Your initial judgments are probably losing you more money and opportunities than you would care to know!
I called someone the other day who fitted one of the above descriptions. Most would have written him off I suppose. However, I’m interested in what’s between the covers of the book not the cover itself.
A few more questions later and we hit the “heart” button! We discovered he was well versed in personal growth and started to talk about his need to change, and was really looking for something to get his teeth into. Read the rest of this entry

A fellow genius once told me . . .
Okay, okay. Maybe I'm grossly enhancing my cerebral
powers, but at least the OTHER guy was a genius.
Here is what this marketing genius said:
To sell a woman anything, simply put these words in
front of what you're selling:
*Sugar-free
*One calorie
*On sale
To sell a man anything, simply put this word in front
of what you're selling:

Every network marketer should read the following quote the minute he/she joins a network marketing company:
“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.
A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this.
And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions.
And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met.
It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”

Kamikaze Susan (my wife) teaches me a cool prospecting lesson
while driving at 105 mph.
My wife, Susan is speeding along at 105 mph. I'm sitting quietly
in the passenger seat, mostly because my fear is making it
impossible for me to speak.
Finally I blurt out, "Dear, you shouldn't be going 105 mph!"
Susan calmly turns to me and says: "But dear, YOU ARE ALSO going
105 mph."
How could I argue with that logic? I guess I just wasn't seeing
things from her point of view. It's the same principle when we
talk with tough prospects. They BELIEVE that they can't or
shouldn't do network marketing.
